A comeback the Russian player claimed his first trophy for 882 days with success over Corentin Moutet in the tournament championship match.

Medvedev, a ex- number one, has experienced a difficult year, achieving just one win at the big events and suffering a setback at the American major.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and issues with his serve in specific - resulted in him exiting of the top ten and ultimately separating with long-time mentor Cervara.

Now training with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has gradually improved in the recent weeks - climaxing in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over Frenchman Moutet.

This marks his maiden trophy after the Italian tournament and first on a hard surface from spring of that year.

Success also indicates the Russian has secured twenty-one victories at twenty-one different tournaments.

"This marks the first occasion I am participating in a tournament with my children at once, so to win a trophy is especially meaningful," commented world number 14 the champion.

"This championship is in tribute of my child Victoria, because the initial championship I got when my older daughter Alisa was born was for her."

Medvedev, the former major winner, had failed in his previous six finals, comprising in that event previously this season.

Medvedev's retrieving strategy and recurring outbursts on the tennis court had caused some to wonder if his capacity to compete at the elite level was finished.

But the player has made changes in recent weeks, attempting to come to the net and perform assertively, reinforced by an better serve.

He came back from a break down in the first set against the tricky Frenchman, taking 4 of the last five games to take the lead.

Both players traded break points in the following set before Moutet, striving for his maiden tour title, took control to push for a final set.

Moutet saved four early break points in a competitive final set before the Russian secured a break to that score to close out the victory.

Suitably, Medvedev secured the win with a point at the net, with his opponent unable to handle a return after over two and a half hours.
